Stop Drinking Diet Soda if You Want to Lose Weight
For those of you who think that the transition between diet “real thing” soda helps you lose weight, you’re in for a rude awakening.Research is increasingly showing that not only does not help, but there are indications that diet drinks sweetened can actually lead to weight gain.
Researchers at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio – School of Medicine have a ten-year study of people who drank diet soda. They studied nearly 500 people and found that people who drank diet soft drinks two or more a day, waist circumference increased by 70% more than those who do not drink soda.
Because the diet soda drinkers gain more weight should be more research into the exact causes are finalized. However, speculation about the causes focuses on the effects of artificial sweeteners and how the mind and the body responds to them.
A professor at the University of Texas theorized that artificial sweeteners our desire for sweets, increased appetite, and can also damage brain cells that feeling of being in control. Apparently, when we taste sweet foods of our brains expect a similar amount of calories and releases insulin accordingly. The body does not burn fat for energy, because it expects an increase in consumption of calories according to Sweet Sensation. Why calories are not the brains are confused and creates the feeling of hunger on the calories promised by the consumption of sugary drinks.
This theory is strongly supported by research conducted on laboratory mice. Researchers from the mouse into two groups. One group ate food laced with the sweetener aspartame. After three months of aspartame group had a higher level of sugar in the blood than mice that ate normal food. There is also speculation that the same applies to other artificial sweeteners, including sugar-containing or derived from plants of the genus Stevia.
In addition to artificial sweeteners, is also theorized that corn syrup high fructose (HFC) has similar effects on weight gain and artificial sweeteners. HFCS is preferable to sugar cane for food and beverage producers, because it tastes like sugar, mix well and is cheaper than sugar.
How ironic it is, is growing evidence that sugar sweetener can be advantageous when trying to lose weight. However, weight loss is always to consume fewer calories than you burn. As we all know sugar is full of calories, so if you absolutely need a sweetener that you might consider using sugar, but use sparingly.
